At some point or another, everyone experiences some type of intense worry, fear or anxiety. It’s part of life, part of the human condition. For most, these experiences run their course and life moves on. This is not the case for the millions in the unfortunate position of being stuck in emotional states they can’t seem to break out of or control.
Without assistance, they hope for days the discomfort isn’t too overwhelming. They feel misunderstood and lost. Many manage the discomfort by medicating themselves or trying to beat their emotions through will power. Unfortunately most will find that years of self loathing and riding an emotional roller coaster won’t change much and often the symptoms have only gotten worse. A good number do nothing and withdraw from society
Others eventually break down and seek help, but do so with a great deal of reluctance. They feel they should be able to overcome their own problems, they should be able to fix themselves. When they finally seek help, they often find the first and only line of defense to be prescription medication. This is a problem if the medications are ineffective; the person fears using drugs or the side effects too costly.
Many keep doing the same things over and over, as if after some magical number of times things will change. They become obsessive. It’s a complex dilemma, because if people knew alternatives existed, ones they could feel comfortable pursuing, it would allow them the ability to stop feeling bad. It would also leave them open to try something different.
Fear is not a disease; it's a neurological process. Regardless whether it is a social anxiety, intimacy, panic attacks or a phobia, it creates stress. Your fight or flight system is meant to quickly react to potential physical danger. It’s an effective yet primitive function of the mind. Unfortunately it is often ineffective in today’s complex social environment. Not everyone realizes irrational fears, thoughts and actions are at least in part a learned response. That’s good news, because that which is learned can be unlearned and expanded.
It is not a matter of whether your mind can change, it’s about changing the way your mind processes fear. Designed thinking client’s experience resetting their focus, their priorities, releasing old patterns in way allowing them more choice as to how they want to respond in stressful situations. It can be difficult realizing what is missing in life until you can rediscover how wonderful things can be without the constant threat of anxieties, phobias or obsessions. I WAS PARALYZED IN MY TRACKS

There is a threshold of familiarity each of us does not want to cross. These are situations forcing us to go past our comfort zone, often creating disorientation, hyper awareness; loss of control, uncertainty, defensiveness and even helplessness. Simple actions, things that shouldn’t matter, are blown out of proportion. A former client of ours, Janice, was the type of person whose life long battle cry was “Make it stop” because her fears were controlling how she responded to intense situations. She hated this aspect of herself and knew it was no way to live her life
It was easy to understand why Janice was buying one self-help book after another. She would read countless internet pages. She was so stuck in her emotions, she wanted immediate answers, she wanted someone to tell her how to get her life back on track. But Janice did want so many tend to do, she tried intellectualize her emotional states instead of releasing them. She was rationalizing the states of mind she was stuck in and this raised her anxiety even more.
For years nothing changed. What Janice didn’t know how to do was get out of the analytical thinking and take needed actions. She needed help in shifting her focus to gain balance between how she processed her thoughts and emotions. That’s not something you can tell a rational person to logical do. Other methods were needed
Without improvement, it was easy for Janice to blame her condition as a medical problem, that there is some physical dysfunction in the mind and body outside her control. She kept trying to fix herself and it only frustrated her more because nothing was changing. It had her feeling like a failure. What she realized was easy answers aren’t always easy to find for complex issues. Irrational fears aren’t always easy to understand. When she finally found a professional who did truly understand her situation, who knew how to related to her and had tools to help her make changes, the gap between her discomfort and the life she wanted began coming together.
Tania thought medication would be her savior and who can blame her. She watched endless commercials of happy people on TV. They somewhat took the edge off but the side effects were not worth the results. What Tania didn’t realize is medications only work because the body already has receptors to accept the active ingredients at a cellular level, meaning her body already had the ability to produce these chemicals naturally. Yet it can only do so if your mind and body are in sync with each other, are balanced, and not conflicted. When the ability to think differently is engaged, when emotions are allowed to flow, stress levels can change and the mind can produce different results.
