Changing – how can I speed up the process?
Part 2b
Doing your part
How often have you read a self-help book and thought; "there are some very good concepts in here, I'll have to try them
out one day" and of course that day never comes. You're still holding on to old behaviors and you forget what you read.
Some take it a step further and begin a program. At first they are regimented into their daily routine, but when they
do not see immediate results, they soon give up and go back to complaining about their symptoms.
Change usually takes some degree of work. Sure sometimes it can occur with little effort, but ask yourself how long have you been in the habit of
doing the behaviors you are doing? You have to give your neuro-pathways the opportunity to knock out what you want to overcome and give new behaviors a chance to grow their own pathways
When working with a professional, you may be given exercises or assignment to do on your own time. Do these with
enthusiasm. Do you remember when you were going through puberty how awkward it was? Your body was changing and it was unfamiliar to you. Making mental changes can feel the same way and sometimes you will be
surprised at how easy it is if you only give it a chance
