First steps in overcoming fears and challenges
Part 1C
Where is the resistance?
When we are challenged in overcoming our problems, we often seek simple answers to the complexities we are faced with, whether it is anxiety, OCD, shyness or fear. The answers often seem
difficult because we don't know where to look to get our solution.
We all want to get past our fears! Yet before any changes can be made, there must be a commitment on your part. The more determined you are in making the change, the easier it will be.
The congruency of your mind and body towards this commitment dictates your willingness. Do you believe you can get past this? Does it feel right when you think about completely letting this go?
To often, only part of us is committed to making a change, where our desires, beliefs, determination and required actions are not 100% congruent. It is important to know where we stand in
our willingness to change
Assuming you do want to change, I would like you just for a moment to focus on your particular challenge (anxiety, OCD, PTSD, phobia).
As you do this, say each statement below, one at a time and pay attention to feelings you have inside. Does it feel congruent when you say these or do you experience resistance anywhere in your body?
- I desire to overcome this
- I believe must overcome this
- I am certain I can overcome this
- I know I will overcome this
- I am going to overcome this
Don't be surprised to feel some discomfort with some of these statements. The less this feels right for you, the lower your congruency. If resistance
exists, ask your self "what would need to happen for me to be able to feel good about releasing this resistance?" "What does this resistance want from me?" Once you feel comfortable with all of the above statements,
you are much more likely to succeed
