Emotions
Most people when faced with a challenge, one they do not understand, have one main goal; they want to
stop the suffering, to get away from their negative feelings. This of course is understandable. In the light of any danger, our fight or flight mechanism kicks. These are useful automatic survival responses we
all have at some capacity or another. One of problems that occur at this point for many is they believe there must be something wrong with them for feeling these responses.
Any emotion is only a signal, an indication of whether something is working or not between what you
expect, desire or believe and what is actually occurring. These differences could be about your capabilities, how you view your safety, what you think you are responsible for, your self worth, etc. The list can
pretty much include anything, but what is important to keep in mind is that emotions need not make any logical sense. Rationality is not the function emotions are intended to have. They are communications your
mind / body is sending you based on whether the world is aligning to what you agree or disagree with, what you like or dislike, whether you are interpreting your environment as pleasure or pain.
Knowing that your emotions are only responses, indications your body is sending you, can allow you to
begin to separate yourself from them. These are processes, signals being sent, however they are not you. They do not mean there is something wrong with you. It only means that on some level, some part of you
does not feel you can handle an aspect of a type of situation as well as you would like to.
