Questions and Answers
Part 2d
Making Contact
So often people write us with questions such as, "how long does it take to get past an anxiety", or "I have OCD, can you tell what length of time I can expect
in order to get over this". Imagine calling up your car mechanic and telling him your car won't start and then asking him what you would need to do in order to fix it?
Your mechanic first needs to get some information. He needs to know the kind of car you have, the make and
year. Then he may need to do a bit of exploration before he can begin to tell you what he believes is going on. Now the human mind, your mind, is far more complex, it is an organic living entity that has the ability
of doing many incredible things, both resourceful and unproductive. No two people will think alike, even if the symptoms they display are similar.
When you are seeking professional assistance, take the time to speak with the professional, to get to know
them. Allow them the opportunity to ask you questions, so they can understand the challenges you are facing. It is the only way you will be able to allow yourself to get valid answers beneficial to your situation.
Be open to hearing new ideas. If we all had the answers, we would not need to seek assistance from others
and there is nothing wrong with knowing you can learn new things when you are ready to do so
